Your Identity Can Be Discovered In The Metaverse Just By Moving

Metaverse is the revolutionary tech of the Web 3.0 community. Its origin and reference are dated back to three decades ago in a book called Snow crash.

Since its launch, the metaverse has registered many improvements and has paved the way for the democratic internet under the decentralized network. Even though the companies from small-scale to big tech giants are spending millions to make it a keystone of the next dynamic web, it is still not available to all, and affording the metaverse is not a normal thing yet. What are the reasons for it?

Besides this, there is a recent issue covered in the metaverse that recognition has become easy by only recognizing the user’s movements. Is it going to disturb the anonymity of the metaverse? And what about the privacy of the users? This blog has given answers to all this.

Why is the metaverse still the next big thing but not today’s?

Metaverse, Even though it has been residing in the industry for some time now, it has not been rooted in the lifestyle of every normal person. Because there are four major problems surrounding it and preventing it from flourishing. They are

The first problem is that today’s metaverse technology is nothing more than a Game. The metaverse has to be a genuine place where every avatar of the particular community has to own the space and should have control over the changes in the space.  But that is not how it is. Because every game in the metaverse is ruled under a few centralized communities in which anything in the 3D format is said to be called metaverse.

The second problem is that the metaverse communities and games are hard to interpret and play. They have a complex and confusing user interface that needs extra effort and custom software to play them. If the particular metaverse game has to reach today’s youth, it has to be more simplified and easy to access. Hence a top metaverse development company should work in a way to appeal to and convince the right audiences.

The third problem is that they are difficult to build. Organizing a strong web 3.0 team is difficult. Even if we form, they do inefficient work in building a metaverse that is firm, suitable to trends, and a long-lasting community. Even though there are many metaverse developers and Blockchain development companies working on it, it is still hard to build an interactive and engaging metaverse space.

The fourth problem is that it needs the fortune to build a whole metaverse space. Building a metaverse is still a distant fantasy for many companies. However small companies can reach out for the help of the foremost metaverse development company in the market to realize the advantages of the metaverse technology at a less cost.

These are the four hurdles that are stopping the metaverse from becoming today’s big thing.

Besides these things, every day we could see controversies surrounding the metaverse regarding its privacy, transparency, and anonymity. The one recent issue on identity recognition just with hand and head movements is discussed in the next section.

A recent issue of metaverse technology: Identity recognition with just moving

A recent Berkely research on “user interaction with the metaverse” stated that by collecting movement data of the user at least for 2 seconds can recognize them with 94% accuracy.

Shocking right?

When we dive into the study details that are conducted under the team lead Vivek Nair at the University of California. They found out that even with little data about the hand and head moments of the player interacting with the metaverse can be used to identify them easily.

They added that it is far better than fingerprint recognition. However, this data collection for identity recognition in metaverse games collapses the originality of the metaverse and its anonymity.

This study was done with the data collected from 50,000 subjects with over 2.5 million data points collected while they are playing the VR game, Beat Saber, which needs a continuous movement from the head and hand.

Only with the 100-second data, 94% accuracy is achieved in recognition by using advanced AI analysis. More than half of the data personnel are identified with only the data collected within 2 seconds.

To stop this, they blurred the motion data that needs the introduction of noise in the game. But if the noise is introduced, it could disturb the precision of the VR headset which is the main element in games like Beat Saber for effective functioning.

The second way could be enforcing laws to prevent big techs from collecting data. This way will not work that easily. Because you all know how tech giants are making use of the big data they are collecting for their growth and revenue.

Final Thoughts

As a result of this identity recognition controversy, Berkley’s research is finding ways that prevent data collection without compromising the quality of the game. On the other hand, the user side can prevent themselves from this by using specialized tools and anonymous browsers.
