The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) does not consider crypto-currencies to be legal tender but considers cryptocurrency exchanges to be money transmitters on the basis that cryptocurrency tokens are \u201cother value that substitutes for currency.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) does not consider cryptocurrency to be authorized tender but defines it as \u201ca digital representation of value that functions as a medium of exchange, a unit of account or a store of value\u201d and has bestowed tax guidance accordingly.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cryptocurrency exchanges are legitimate in the United States and drop under the regulatory scope of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
